Detlef Schrempf has to be a common answer for the “if only he’d been born a little later” question.
At 6’10”, Schrempf was allowed to do a lot of things that players his size typically weren’t—like create a little for others and launch threes—but the volume wasn’t close to what he might’ve done in the modern era.
The outside shooting, in particular, was on vivid display during the 1994-95 season. That year, Schrempf averaged 1.1 threes (a lot, at the time) and shot a blistering 51.4 percent from deep. It was a weapon that helped the Seattle SuperSonics finish with one of the best records in the West, but it’s hard not to think about how much more they could’ve done with it.
