The NBA reportedly informed teams of updated salary cap projections for the 2027-28 season on Saturday.
According to Fred Katz of The Athletic, the 2027-28 season is expected to contain a $176 million salary cap as well as a $213 million luxury tax line.
The NBA previously projected a $174 million cap and a $234 million second apron for the league’s 2027-28 campaign on June 30, per Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic.
As for the upcoming 2026-27 season, the salary cap is set at $164.96 million with a luxury tax level at $200.43 million.
During the previous 2025-26 season, NBA teams operated with a $154.65 million salary cap to go along with a $187.9 million tax level.
Although the exact 2027-28 salary cap won’t become official until June 2027, teams can continue to build their rosters with the reported updated projections in mind.
That could include front offices attempting to restructure their rosters in order to avoid crossing the $213 million luxury tax line and the penalties associated with it.
26 of the league’s 30 teams currently have over $213 million in total cap allocations for their 2027-28 campaigns (via Spotrac). The 30 organizations also have an average of $240.8 million in 2027-28 total cap allocations.
In the meantime, the 2026-27 season will begin on Oct. 20.
