British Ice Skating has partnered with specialist equipment manufacturer Skate-Tec to support its speed skating programmes, marking a new step in the governing body’s preparations for the Olympic cycle culminating at the 2030 Winter Olympics.
The agreement will see Skate-Tec provide specialist skating equipment, helmets and protective gear for athletes representing Great Britain in international competition. The partnership is also intended to ease the financial burden of acquiring high-performance equipment, a cost British Ice Skating said has historically fallen largely on individual athletes.
Jon Eley, Performance Director, British Ice Skating, said, “We’re really pleased to be partnering with Skate-Tec as we begin this new Olympic cycle. For me, this partnership is a real testament to our athletes, their achievements and the hard work of the wider team over the last four years. It shows a belief in our programme and in what we can achieve together moving towards 2030. Equipment is such an important part of speed skating, so having Skate-Tec’s proven expertise in blades alongside ATTAQ’s racewear and team clothing gives our athletes confidence in both their performance equipment and how they represent Great Britain. We want them to feel proud of what they compete in and excited about the support behind them.”
Founded in 2019 by Johan Bennink and Yanling Song, Skate-Tec builds on the founders’ experience in speed skating equipment development through earlier ventures, including Maple and Evo Skate. Its product range covers both short-track and long-track speed skating, alongside helmets and protective accessories.
British Ice Skating has also highlighted the founders’ equipment legacy, which it associates with ten Olympic gold medals across the history of their earlier and subsequent ventures.
The partnership follows the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and forms part of British Ice Skating’s wider efforts to strengthen athlete support for the next Olympic cycle. By addressing equipment costs and working with specialist suppliers, the governing body aims to provide athletes with a stronger foundation for international competition.
